Overview

The City of Tracy continues to prove its ability to attract major business and industry. The City Council and City Staff consider economic development the highest priority and have an innovative approach to development and land use.

Tracy offers business and industry all the elements critical for success: superior geographic location, access to major highway and rail systems, progressive business-friendly community, skilled and educated workforce, affordable land prices, quality housing, and an infrastructure program that makes potential sites "ready-to-go."

Location
Tracy is located just 20 minutes east of the Bay Area and is centrally located to several large metro areas, including San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento.
Demographics
Tracy has a growing population of Nearly 80,000 people and has a median household income of $74,773.

Tracy has a growing retail trade area of 196,000. New communities within the City, as well as other areas such as the town of Mountain House and community of River Islands are contributing to this growth.

Labor/Workforce
Tracy has one of the most diverse and skilled labor forces in the Central Valley. Fifty-six percent of Tracy's workforce have attended or graduated from college. Currently, Tracy's daytime workers are primarily in professional and business services, retailing and manufacturing.

Tracy is home to a large number of science and technology workers, as well as many blue-collar workers that commute to the Bay Area. Approximately 63% of the 36,000+ employed residents work outside of Tracy.

Despite this trend of out-commuting, Tracy continues to increase its daytime workforce, growing 89% in a decade, accounting for more than 29,000 jobs.

Business Friendly
Business attraction and retention is a high priority for the City. Tracy's City Council is pro-business and eager to attract companies that bring jobs to the community.

There is no utility tax in Tracy, providing instant cost savings of about 6% on utility costs.

Tracy schools are among the best in San Joaquin County. Tracy prides itself on community activities and participation, boasting a vast network of community parks, youth sports and special events throughout the year.

Tracy offers expanding health and medical services to its growing population. Sutter Tracy Community Hospital is equipped with the latest in digital image technology, as well as new, state-of-the-art facilities providing the latest in non-invasive procedures for patients.
