Fire Chief – Chris Bosch
Number of Line personnel in the department – 2 Division Chiefs, 3 Battalion Commanders, 1 Fire Inspector, 4 Clerical staff, and 63 line personnel who are spread out over 3 shifts. We currently staff 7 fire engines and cover approximately 18 square miles in the city limits and over 200 miles in the southern part of San Joaquin County. Tracy Fire Runs automatic aid with the area Fire Departments of; Manteca FD, Manteca-Lathrop FD, California Department of Forestry (CDF), Alameda County FD, Stanislaus Coounty FD, Tracy Defense Depot and Livermore Lab FD.
Reserve Firefighters – Tracy Fire has a reserve force of 30.
Emergency Dispatching – We currently use a “dedicated fire only” dispatching center. The dispatching is provided by our neighbors at the Stockton Fire Department. Stockton Fire Department was one of the first departments in the nation to provide emergency medical dispatching to prioritize fire apparatus response and to give medical care information to the caller. We transmit on a primary channel frequency of 155.055mhz and we utilize a tactical channel frequency of 154.310mhz.
Tracy Firefighters Local #3355 – Tracy Firefighters are a part of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local #3355.
Current Departmental Goals
- Hire three (3) firefighter/paramedics for Mountain House Station (Engine 98) when Mountain House issues 1800 building permits.
- Remodel the old fire station #1 with a federal grant. This will become the new headquarters of the department. This project is underway with completion scheduled for January 2006.
- Relocate station 91 to the west end of town. Station opened in March of 2005.
- Planning new Sta 97, site acquisition complete.
- Evaluate the pilot program for Advanced Life Support-engine based services at Station 93.
- Mountain House Fire Station (Station 98) will open in September 2005.
- Purchase a new Water Tender with funds awarded from a Department of Homeland Security/FEMA grant awarded in 2004. Delivery scheduled for January 2006.
- Begin to re-evaluate our call volumes and response times with a current “Standards of Cover” survey. October 2005.
- Begin the process of developing and training a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
