It is illegal to dispose of household hazardous waste in the trash, down storm drains, or onto the ground.
Many products found in your home are potentially hazardous substances. Because of their chemical nature, they can poison, corrode, explode, or ignite easily when handled improperly.
Here are some examples:

- Aerosol sprays.
- Batteries.
- Cleaners.
- Fluorescent lamps.
- Medications.
- Nail polish.
- Cleaning polishes (furniture, shoe polish, etc.)
- Oven cleaners.
- Poisons.
- Thermometers.
- Mothballs.
Yard/Garden
- Fertilizers.
- Pesticides.
- Pool chemicals.
- Propane tanks (5 gallons or less).
- Weed killers.
- Fungicide.
- Insecticide or bug killer.
- Flea collars, sprays, and bombs.
- Rodent poisons.
- Roach and ant killers.
- Snail and slug poisons.
Pool and Hobby
- Glues.
- Paint, all kinds.
- Paint thinners.
- Solvents.
- Wood finishes.
- Firearm ammunition.
- Firearm cleaning solvent.
- Photographic chemicals.
- All pool chemicals, including disinfectants and pH balancing chemicals.
- Wood preservatives.
Garage
- Antifreeze.
- Auto batteries.
- Engine cleaners.
- Fuel and gasoline.
- Oil and filters.
The Public Works Department in partnership with the San Joaquin County Solid Waste Division hosts one special HHW event each year. The date is to be determined each year by City staff. For the next scheduled event, please call (209) 831-4331.
Residents of Tracy may dispose of Household Hazardous Waste for free at the San Joaquin County Household Hazardous Waste facility located at 7850 R.A. Bridgeford Street, Stockton.
The facility is open to the public Thursday through Saturday, from 9 am to 3 pm. Call 1-800-449-4840 for more information.
