“Police Officer – Lateral” is a position for officers who will possess a valid California POST Basic certificate upon appointment, and have at least one year experience as a full-time sworn Police Officer or Deputy Sheriff. Once hired, lateral officers are required to complete a field-training program that lasts approximately 16 weeks – but may be reduced due to the officer's performance and experience. After successful completion of the program, they are assigned a beat and operate independently. Lateral officers' status remains probationary for the first 12 months of employment. Permanent status is achieved upon successful completion of probation.

Under general supervision of the Arts Program Coordinator, the part-time Arts Education Assistant (Recreation Leader) assists instructors in the Ceramics Studio by loading and firing ceramic kilns, mixing glazes and clay, setting up facilities and equipment, cleaning and maintaining equipment and studio, transporting supplies, maintaining a safe learning environment, and assisting students.

“Police Officer – Entry” is a starting position for Police Academy graduates and Police Officers from other agencies who do not possess a California POST Basic certificate. Once hired, entry-level officers are required to complete a field training program that lasts approximately 16 weeks, during which time they are under direct observation and subject to the instruction of a training officer. After successful completion of the program, they are assigned a beat and operate independently. Additionally, California POST Basic officers' status is probationary for the first 18 months of employment. Once probation is successfully completed, a California POST Basic certificate can be acquired, and permanent status is achieved.
